We catch-up with Greg Minnaar following his 2nd place in Windham and still lying 2nd overall with 1 round to go:
SO GREG, DESPITE IT BEING A BIT OF A BAD LUCK TRACK FOR YOU…GOOD RESULT!
Yeah, I was chuffed at Windham – it was a good race for me…you know I haven’t really had a great result in Windham in the past, and for me to pull off second I was definitely stoked.
TELL US A BIT MORE ABOUT THE RACE ITSELF…
Windham was tough on me going in, it’s a track I don’t usually do too well on, but I was more confident this year, knowing that the bike fits me so well. Going in though I had a damaged right hand from MSA and it was really hard to get comfortable, you couldn’t just cruise down as it was so rutted up. Every run was full on and fast paced and on the morning of the race I took another tumble which didn’t really help things.
I took it a bit easy up top in my race run because of that crash, but I also swapped my muds for dry tyres to try and get a bit more rolling speed further down. In the end I put together a solid race run and gave it a good shot and was stoked to be second having not laid it all on the line.
2nd AND NOT GOING ALL OUT IS PRETTY IMPRESSIVE! LEFT SOMETHING IN THE TANK THEN?! HEADING INTO THE LAST ROUND IT’S ALL STILL TO PLAY FOR…
That’s right, it’s gonna go down to the last round with Gwin. I’m not actually sure where I’m lying and how close the gap is as the UCI website is tricky to navigate so we can’t find the latest points table. In fact I could be super close or way off, I just don’t know, but hey at least it keeps me focused on the training, that not-knowing![You’re not wrong Greg, it took us a while to find the overall standings…not easy to find at all]
GREG – ALL THE BEST FOR THE FINAL ROUND AND OF COURSE THE WORLDS!!
