Following a great 2016 season finishing 3rd overall in the 4X ProTour, O’Neal rider Quentin Derbier kicked off the 2017 season in style!

Back from injuries sustained at the end of last year Quentin was keen to get back on the podium in 2017 and start as he means to go on.

For Quentin, the opening round took place on home soil at the Azur Bike Park in France. He took second place in a very competitive field:
“After a full winter of recovery due to the crash I had at the end of last season (broken shoulder and elbow), it was so good to just being back on the bike, especially on home soil for the first round of the 2017 4X ProTour series last weekend!”

With solid rides through the knock-out stages, Quentin found himself in the final.
“Finally, the main event. I felt so good to be there, even if I was a bit placed on the outside on the gate, as Slavik and Beaumont choose lane 1 and 2. So gate number 3 for me, with 2016 4X world n°3 Beckeman in lane 4.”

“I had my best start of the afternoon on this one, and immediately closed the door on Scott, found myself on Slavik‘s tales. I pushed so hard on the 2nd straight, almost crashing on the drop before the rock garden. This small mistake was enough for Slavik to make a gap between us. We both pushed hard all the run, and finally crossed the line like this, 2nd sport for me! Definitely a good return to form and I‘m already looking for the next round in Germany at the end of May!”

The O’Neal pro 4X line-up this year sees 4 riders all in with a chance of podium finishes. Quentin is joined by Scott Beaumont, Alex Metcalfe and Charlie Currie. We’re excited for the rest of the season now as round 2 moves to Winterberg, Germany and then on to Fort William, UK.
Good luck to all our riders!
