Why do we see so many start ups: the market entry hurdles are much lower as the electric engines, the batteries, controllers etc. are somehow standard products, that can be sourced easily while developing a combustion engine is a completely different animal, that requires a lot of engineering and big financial resources for development, tooling and certifications.
We were surprised, that actually almost no motorcycle magazine from what we know reports about models beyond the Stark Varg. Actually we have been asked during a motorcycle presentation in Spain, if we can share our list with a magazine. We believe that electric MX bikes or Trailbikes are the future for our market not only because of sustainability aspects, more important because of their low noise, because of their often low prices (starting from around 5.000 €), their low operation cost and their easy usability. We see a huge chance, that the gap between the large E-MTB community and E-MX/E-Trailbikes is coming closer, fueling the electric MX and Enduro community in the future.
We see the chance, that tracks will not be under pressure for their noise emissions anymore, that new E-MX tracks can be opened even close to cities without the usual conflicts with the neighborhood. The batterie capacity of a Stark Varg is enough for a track day for 80% of the riders out there as most do not have the riding skills of Ken Roczen (who tested the Stark Varg already).
We see, that the easy usability will attract new riders to the sport as bikes like a Sur-Ron Light Bee or a Malaguti Xam are not as intimidating as 2 or 4stroke MX bikes: no revs, no clutch, no gear shifting, rear brake at the handlebar and at the same time the performance setting options of electric bikes makes it easy to adjust the bike performance to the user level . The torque of an electric engine is very impressive and a perfect fit for going offroad and it provides fun also for experienced riders.
Going into the woods or mountains with those electric dirtbikes will be much more socially accepted due to the lack of noise, if ridden responsibly.
As far as we know, we are the first organization to publish a market overview of electric dirtbikes. We believe there are more electric dirtbikes out there and we see every months new manufacturers (our lists dates June 15th 2023)
